Test with Simulate
Simulate is Knot Core’s dry-run mode: you walk the graph and see data passed between nodes without risky writes (depending on node type and settings).
🔁 Start a simulation
- Open the workflow in the editor.
- Click Simulate (toolbar).
- Provide input data if the trigger requires it (fake webhook payload, sample ID).
- Step through or let the engine run the chain.
Each node shows:
- resolved inputs (
{{ }}replaced); - simulated output or error;
- approximate duration.
🔁 Inspector and mocks
The side inspector lists the simulated run context. You can:
- confirm a Dolibarr field exists before an HTTP POST;
- copy JSON for a support ticket;
- spot a miswired edge (
undefineddata).
Some connectors support mocks: fake HTTP response, email logged but not sent.
🔁 Simulate vs a real run
| Aspect | Simulate | Real run |
|---|---|---|
| Dolibarr writes | Often blocked or rolled back | Persisted |
| Log only (per config) | Real SMTP | |
| HTTP | May be mocked or real | Live network |
| Audit log | Test trace | Production trace |
🔁 Debug an expression
If {{ nodes.xxx.output.field }} is empty:
- Check node name (
xxx) in the inspector. - Confirm the
sourceedge points to that node. - Verify the field exists on the Dolibarr object (introspection).
