How to set up automatic low-stock alerts in Dolibarr (2026 guide)

Why automate low-stock alerts?

A stockout means a lost sale or halted production. Manually watching stock levels is tedious and error-prone. Ideally, you’re alerted automatically as soon as a product drops below its alert threshold, so you can restock in time. Dolibarr offers several approaches.

Method 1 — Native alert thresholds

Dolibarr lets you set a stock alert threshold (minimum stock) per product and shows visual alerts in the interface. That’s the built-in baseline.

Its limits: the alert is mostly visual inside the ERP. To get a proactive email notification without checking Dolibarr, or to trigger an action (create a supplier order), you need to go further.

Method 2 — Scheduled tasks and exports

You can use Dolibarr’s scheduled tasks to generate regular stock reports. Useful for periodic monitoring, but not very reactive or conditional. A Knot Core Cron trigger can replace this with a targeted alert.

Method 3 — Coding a PHP trigger

A PHP trigger on stock movements can detect crossing the threshold and send an alert. Flexible, but means code, maintenance, and developer skills.

Method 4 — A visual workflow with Knot Core

With Knot Core (free, open-source GPL), the low-stock alert becomes a visual workflow.

The trigger. Two options. Either a daily Cron trigger that checks stock levels every morning. Or an Object event trigger on stock movements, for a real-time reaction on each outflow. See Cron trigger and Object event trigger.

Threshold check. With the Dolibarr connector, fetch products and their stock levels. With the Logic connector, filter those that dropped below their alert threshold. See Dolibarr connector and Logic connector.

The alert. With the Email connector (included free), send the list of products to restock to the purchasing manager, with references and quantities. You can chain further actions as needed. See Email connector.

Test before activating. With Simulate, dry-run to verify the alert fires for the right products, without sending any real email. Then activate, and track executions in Track runs. See Simulate.

Which method to choose?

Visual monitoring inside the ERP: native thresholds are enough.

Proactive, conditional email alert — or even triggering actions — without coding: Knot Core. Self-hosted, your stock data never leaves your server.
